Brief description:

At Berea College, students pay no tuition fees. Every admitted student receives a tuition-free promise that covers her 100% of tuition fees. Berea College is the only school in the United States that offers 100% of her funding to all international students enrolled in their first year of enrollment. This combination of financial aid and scholarships offsets tuition, room and board, and fees.

Scholarship value/inclusions:

All admitted international students receive financial aid and scholarships that cover 100% of tuition, room and board, and fees for the first year of enrollment. For the next several years, international students are expected to save $1,000 per year to cover expenses. To meet this obligation, the university offers summer jobs to international students.

An accepted international student will also be required to pay a deposit of $2,200 to confirm her admission. This deposit can be used for certain expenses during the international student’s four years of study. Additional financial support is available for students who are unable to pay their deposit in full or in part.

Eligibility:

Applicants must meet the university entrance requirements of their home country and perform well on the secondary or final exam. Applicants must also submit scores from one of the following recognized standardized tests: TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, ACT, or Duolingo. The minimum scores required for each test are:

TOEFL:  520 (paper-based); 190 (computer-based); 68 (internet-based)

• IELTS: 6 overall, 5 in each area

• ACT: 19 Composite

• SAT:  980 Combined Score

• Duolingo: 95

Application instructions:

All applications must be submitted by January 15th at the latest. The early application deadline is October 15th. Each academic year begins in August of the following year.
